Introduction
The personal interview is an interacting with the candidate in order to know the kind of Person he is. The company wants to know about you, so put your best foot forward. Apart from academic skills, are you a team player and pleasant to work with? Do you bluff your way? What is your attitude towards work?
What is tested?
These things are judged by asking direct and indirect questions. Examples of these questions are:
v Tell us something about yourself
v What is your ambition?
v What are your short and long goals
v What ate your strength and weakness
v Technical questions relating to your area of specialization
v Your response to hypothetical situations
Technical Interviews
Technical interviews go beyond personal interviews as they test the actual learning of the candidate. What have you learnt during the four year in an engineering college? Can you explain clearly some important concepts? Can you apply these concepts?
Interviewers will try to ascertain the level of your seriousness during the technical interview. You may be asked to explain certain things you have learnt during college. Sometimes you are even asked to draw diagrams or solve questions during the interview. It is a viva where you have to demonstrate your learning.
Go over your text books carefully and revise the concepts that you may have learnt in the first or second year. Do not leave out anything. Or at least some common connects must be absolutely clear. If you are a mechanical engineer, for example, make sure you know al, your ratios correctly.
Carry copies of your project work that may have done and also show your comfort level in the work done. Do net, if asked , say that you did not know much about the project or that it was just a theoretical one and that there are no applications of it. In case you have not taken it seriously, take a look now. Demonstrate that what you have done was important to you and it also has wide applications. But then also keep in mind that if you do not know an answer do not bluff Accept your shortcoming and simply as,”I don’t know sir”. Remember to dress formally for the interview . Your response should be formal. Do not be casual about what you say, especially about things you don’t know. Remember, the first impression is the last impression ; your job depends on it .
